Attack Surface — Defense in Depth

IDS in front: attackers are slowed on approach, then step out of the field to fight. Detection covers the part that does not matter.
IDS behind: the field covers the Firewalls, the Patch and the Honeypot. Enemies are slowed while chewing through them.
When the front breaks: the attacker is now standing deeper in the field, closer to the sensor, still slowed, while your Firewalls keep firing. The lane degrades instead of collapsing.
